A phone that requires no SIM card by Elon Musk

There is another breakthrough technology that Elon Musk has come with. He has joined hands with New Zealand based company called ONE NZ. Together with Elon's Starlink they were able to test a SMS based service. This will help to connect the remote regions and those areas that cannot be connected easily.


The Test has been Successful

An SMS was sent through Starlink's satellite in the region of  Christchurch, New Zealand. This event marks the beginning of a new era, which uses the Satellite technology.

One NZ was earlier known as Vodafone New Zealand as very excited about the successful moment that has created history. There are preparations going on for the official launch of the service, it has the capacity to connect rural areas to mobile network.

How Satellites are used here  

1. Signal sent - When a message is sent from the mobile, it is turned to a signal that is then is received by NEO Satellite nearby.

2. Satellite Rerouting - The satellite sends the signal to another satellite that send the signal to a ground station that is connected to the internet or mobile network.

3. Message Received - The message is received at the other end. The same process is followed in reverse.

In this way this technology removes the dependence on mobile towers. The satellite connects several areas in far region such as deserts, remote islands and even oceans. This opens doors of connectivity for those is far off region looking for better communication.

Further Developments

This is a huge success for the mobile-to-satellite service that has begun in New Zealand. There are currently 230 Starlinks that will assist in the spread of this technology. Further coverage will be provided as more with innovation.

One NZ is planning to officially launch this service, This will help them to expand their business and production, connected remote part of the region.
